John O Gaunt student wins Harey 8 poster competition!
We would like to say a huge well done to Lucy Hammond, a year 8 student at John O Gaunt School, for winning the competition for redesigning the Harey 8 poster for 2018! The annual race, organised by the Hungerford Hares running club has a new date this year and the race director thought this would be a great opportunity to have a new poster and involve the local secondary school in the process. Lucy’s winning design is fantastic, she really rose to the challenge adding incredible detail and the artwork is so bright, imaginative with a positive impact. She was presented with her winning prize of a £50 amazon voucher and a framed copy of her poster at her end of term assembly. The prize was kindly donated by one of the race committee members work organisation. We are looking forward to sharing her winning design through our publicity for the event this year. Well done Lucy!

BOOST FOR BERKSHIRE MENTAL HEALTH FROM HUNGERFORD HARES.
Hungerford Hares Running Club marked World Mental Health Day with a
cheque presentation to Berkshire-based charity Sport in Mind.
A total
amount of £1,655 was raised by the club through its annual Harey 8 race
in June with proceeds also boosted by a special event at Hungerford
Town Hall which marked the running club’s tenth anniversary. A match
funding donation was also received from the NAV People’s Charitable
Trust which provided an incredible total of £1,155.
Sport in Mind
promotes mental well-being through sport and physical activity and
raises awareness of mental health issues. Hungerford Hares Chairman,
Mandy Waldon said: “This has been a milestone year for Hungerford Hares
and it was particularly fitting for us to be able to present our cheque
to Sport in Mind on October 10 which was World Mental Health Day. “We
were also really pleased to be working in partnership this year with
Sport in Mind, to help the recovery of people experiencing mental health
problems and raising awareness of mental health and the importance of
wellbeing. “We would also like to thank everyone who supported us this
year and over the past ten years and contributed to the club’s growth
during this time.” Sport In Mind Development Officer Laura Brooks said:
“It was fantastic to receive such an amazing amount of money and to take
part in the Harey 8 run. It was lots of fun. The money will be used to
deliver sport and physical activity sessions in Hungerford. Thank you
very much to the Hungerford Hares and NAV People’s Charitable Trust. You
are superstars!”
