Tuesday Session Run: Boxford
10 March @ 7:15 pm - 9:30 pm
What: Mixed Run
Starting where: Meet at Boxford Village Hall at 7.15pm for a prompt start at 7.30pm.
Route: This is a run covering the villages of Boxford, Winterbourne and Bagnor.
Distance, 6.7 miles, 10.8km.
Either road or trail shoes are OK (it’s roughly 70:30 tarmac/muddy footpaths).
Some country roads, very dark but quiet. Head or hand torches and hi-viz absolutely essential.
The route is gently undulating, the few hills are pretty easy compared with what’s round Hungerford.
Because of the looped route and lack of public footpaths, the only option for a shorter route is to turn round at 2 miles and retrace one’s steps, making it 4 miles (6.4km).
Meet at the free car park of Boxford Village Hall, which is just outside the village, on the Newbury – Lambourn road, at the point where the Lambourn Road meets Rood Hill.
Just up the road from The Bell pub. Opportunity to have a drink here afterwards, if people wish.
For sat navs, use:
Teddy Bears Nursery
Boxford Village Hall
Directions from Hungerford (16 mins):
Go up the A338 to the M4 motorway junction
Carry on over the junction, take the first right after half a mile or so to Shefford Woodlands
Continue along the B4000 to the village of Wickham
Turn L just after the Five Bells pub and continue down the road (Easton Hill) for a mile or two to Welford.
At the end of this road, turn R onto Rood Hill.
The car park is on the L after half a mile or so.
Or slightly faster (14 mins):
Head east along the A4 out of Hungerford
Turn L immediately after the Halfway Inn (signposted Hoe Benham and Boxford)
Keep on this road, ignore fork to Lambourn on the left
Go straight across the cross roads with the B4000 onto “High Street” [Cromwell marched his soldiers up here]
You come out facing The Bell pub. Turn L here and the car park is a few hundred yards up on the R.
